This Stingray style kit is from TuneCraft Guitars, the company liquidating The Fret Wire stock. It’s a basswood body, and as I’ve said before, that isn’t my favorite. I painted this one, though, and it came out pretty good. I used a couple of cans of “hammered copper” that has the appearance of some texture to it and is said to cover up defects (or in my case, mistakes). It worked well. After getting the look I wanted, I sprayed it with clear lacquer. There is Tru Oil Gunstock Finish on the neck.
I’d never owned or played this style bass. About the closest I’ve had is my DIY #17 kit from Solo that also has a P-style pickup in it. I added the thumb rest because I normally rest my thumb on the pickup. There is no P-style pickup on this one, and the humbucker is a little to close to the bridge for my preference.
