DIY #15 LP Style 12-String

Here is another Bargain Musician “blem” kit purchased from an eBay seller. It has a flamed maple top with a mahogany body and mahogany set neck. My original intention was for a light green colored flamed maple top, and I used a nice blend of Keda Wood Dye that actually looked like I wanted. But when I put Tru Oil Gunstock Finish over it, the light green turned to more of a pea soup color. Oh well, it still looks nice. It also has Tru Oil Gunstock Finish on the back and on the neck.

This, the second of my “blem” kits, was sold with a filled spot in the wood of the headstock. But when I applied the Keda Wood Dye to the top, it began to delaminate. I was able to press it back down, and after applying the Tru Oil Gunstock Finish there doesn’t appear to be any damage. There were a lot of glue spots that did not take the dye well.

My very first good guitar, purchased as a teenager right out of high school, was an Alvarez 12-string. Who does that? I still have it, and love 12-string guitars.
