DIY #21 Headless Bass

This headless bass kit came from a now defunct company TuneCraft Guitars. They were formed to liquidate the old stock of a well-known guitar kit company, The Fret Wire, and when stock was gone they closed. I had made several attempts to order from The Fret Wire when I first started building, but there were always delivery problems. I was glad to see these available so I could give them a try.

The body is basswood, again not my favorite, but I’ve learned how to spray paint them fairly well. This is a bright yellow base coat with clear lacquer applied over the top. The neck has Minwax Tung Oil Finish. It’s a good quality product, fairly easy to assemble and to set up. It uses standard bass guitar strings, which clamp down at the top of the neck. The tuners at the bottom pull the ball end to put tension on the strings.
